Mt Arthur Coal is part of BHP Billiton, the world’s largest diversified resources company. We are a large open-cut coal mine less than five kilometres from the town of Muswellbrook in the Upper Hunter region of New South Wales. We produce up to 15 million tonnes per annum of raw energy coal when full production is achieved. The coal is produced for domestic and export power generation.

The mine shares the area with rural properties and other industries such as horse studs, vineyards, olive groves and residential suburbs. Therefore, minimising the environmental impacts to our neighbours is a priority to the operation.
